Extract text from photos, screenshots, scans, and image files with OCR.

Image to Text uses optical character recognition (OCR) to turn words inside a picture into editable text. Add one image or a batch of JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP, GIF, HEIC, or HEIF files, arrange them in the desired order, and extract all recognized text in one run.

This image OCR tool is useful for copying text from screenshots, scanned letters, receipts, invoices, forms, presentation slides, book pages, product labels, and photos of printed documents. The result can be edited in the output box, copied to the clipboard, or saved as a plain TXT file.

Choose the language that best matches the source. For faint scans or dark backgrounds, try grayscale or high-contrast black and white enhancement. Rotation fixes sideways phone photos, while a higher recognition resolution can help with small text. Very large images are automatically scaled to a browser-safe size.

OCR accuracy depends on focus, lighting, font style, image resolution, text direction, and language choice. Clear printed text generally works better than handwriting or decorative fonts. Processing happens in your browser; the selected images are not uploaded to formatter.org.
