ZIP protects file contents with AES-256 but keeps filenames visible.

Processing takes place in this browser tab. Files are not uploaded by this tool.

Convert archives without unpacking them manually

Archive conversion preserves the regular files and safe relative paths in the source, then packs them into the selected output format. Empty folders, links, permissions, timestamps, comments, and format-specific metadata may not be retained. Choose ZIP for broad compatibility, 7Z for compact encrypted storage, or TAR and TAR.GZ for common Unix and backup workflows.

The entire expanded archive must fit in browser memory during conversion. RAR and other supported formats can be used as sources, but this tool creates only ZIP, 7Z, TAR, and TAR.GZ files and does not create RAR archives.

How to convert an archive online

  1. Select one supported archive and enter its source password if it is protected.
  2. Choose ZIP, 7Z, TAR, or TAR.GZ, enter the output name, and optionally protect ZIP or 7Z with a new password.
  3. Click Convert Archive, wait for conversion to finish, then download the result.

Online archive converter FAQ

Which archive formats can I convert?

You can select common archives including ZIP, ZIPX, 7Z, RAR, TAR, TAR.GZ, TAR.BZ2, TAR.XZ, ISO, JAR, and APK. Output options are ZIP, 7Z, TAR, and TAR.GZ. Exact input compatibility depends on the compression and encryption method used by the source file.

Can I convert password-protected archives?

Enter the source password when the selected archive is encrypted. For the converted result, ZIP and 7Z support passwords; TAR and TAR.GZ do not. ZIP protects file contents with AES-256 while filenames remain visible, whereas 7Z can hide filenames as well.

Is my archive uploaded?

No. The source archive is read, expanded, and repacked in this browser tab. The tool does not upload the archive or its extracted contents.

Can I convert an archive to the same format?

Yes. Converting to the same format can be useful for changing or removing a password or rebuilding an archive. The resulting size may be larger or smaller because compression settings and file contents affect the result. Regular files and safe relative paths are preserved; empty folders, links, permissions, timestamps, comments, and format-specific metadata may not be retained.

Why can archive conversion fail?

Damaged files, missing volumes from a split archive, or unsupported encryption can stop conversion. The source archive can be up to 512 MB. Each conversion accepts up to 2,000 regular files and 256 MB of expanded content.
