The spacecraft radio was transmitting with the high-gain antenna—a sort of stick with reflectors that had to be aimed as precisely as a rifle—and it crossed Kranz's mind that since the antenna ran on power from Main Bus B, the undervolt might somehow have caused the change; if that was so, then the funny should correct itself now that the undervolt had.
“Ah, Houston, we've had a problem,” repeated Lovell. “We've had a main B bus undervolt.”

A voltage curve which slopes, having a 33%-50% difference between the commencing and final values, makes the source of power from which it emanates unsuitable for some purposes owing to the necessity for either constant adjustment of the circuit values or overvolting the circuit to start with, with undervolting towards the end of the cell's life.
If the lamp is undervolted the burning rate of the carbons will decrease and they will tend to feed together, but as they approach each other the arc is shortened and the arc voltage drops.
Based on our previous tests with hydrogen, we will not be able to undervolt the switch enough to achieve 10 kHz.
